This is the life story of Tom Hardy!

Childhood and education

Tom Hardy was born on September 15, 1977, in the London neighborhood of Hammersmith. He is the only child of Annie Barrett Hardy, an artist and painter of Irish descent, and Edward Hardy, a writer of comedies and novels. He grew up in the suburbs of London. Until the age of 13, he attended Tower House Elementary School, and after that, Reed’s School in London. He attended acting in Richmond, and after that he learned the craft at the acting school “Drama Center London”, where one of his mentors was the legendary actor Anthony Hopkins.

After winning a supermodel competition in 1998, Hardy enrolled in an acting school in London. Shortly afterwards, he got his first role as a soldier, John Janovec, in the award-winning mini-series “United Brothers”. Already in 2001, he got a role in the film “The Fall of the Black Hawk” by Ridley Scott, and the following year, he played Shinzon in the franchise “Star Trek: Nemesis”.

During 2004, he returned to film with the role of Clarky in the film “In the Vortex of Crime”.

Hardy played a longtime friend of Queen Elizabeth I who ruled England during the 16th century.

In the BBC TV series from 2007, based on true events, he played Stuart Shorter, a homeless man who committed suicide after months of abuse.

In February 2008, he appeared in the film “Rock and Roll”, by British director Guy Ritchie, in which he played gangster Hands Bob. In early 2009, he made the film “Bronson” in which he plays one of the most famous prisoners in Britain, Charles Bronson. Many critics consider Hardy’s performance in this film to be one of the best in his career, because he fairly faithfully portrayed the life of a man who spent most of his life behind bars. For this role, Tom Hardy had to gain 19 kilograms of muscle mass, and he succeeded in that.

While preparing to shoot, he met the real Charles Bronson, who claimed that no one but Hardy was able to play him on the movie screen.

The role of Sam, an alcoholic who wants to immerse his past in drinking, was very well-received by the audience. This was followed by work with Christopher Nolan in the film “The Beginning”. His role in this film earned him a “BAFTA” award in the category of best rising actor.

In the same year, he signed his first contract with the production company “Warner Bros”.

In 2011, he replaced Michael Fassbinder in the film “Patchwork, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, which was premiered to the public at the Mostra Film Festival in Venice. It was then that he realized his boyhood dream of playing side by side with actor Gary Oldman, his film idol.

That 2012 was crucial for the British actor is shown by two great films he made during the year – “Lawlessness” and “The Rise of the Dark Knight”, in which he masterfully played the role of the ruthless Bain, who brought him two MTV nominations – for best villain and award for best fight.

The scene in which he brutally beats Christian Bale, delighted the audience. In 2013, he made the film “Dangerous Call”, and the role of Ivan Locke brought him a nomination for the best British actor in the lead role. A year later, he got the opportunity to star with James Gandolfini in the movie “Dirty Delivery”. This was also Gandolfini’s last role before he died.

That same year, he played Alfie Solomon’s in the BBC series “Peaky Blinders”. He remained in the series until 2017, and many claims that he showed all his acting talent by playing the role of a gangster in this series.

During 2015, he made five films. The first, “Child 44”, was placed in the Soviet Union in the 1950s.

In the same year, he made another great film, “Mad Max: Highway of Rage”. George Miller’s new film was praised by critics and audiences, and earned more than 378 million dollars in cinemas around the world. The film recorded the highest earnings in the “Mad Max” franchise.

One of Hardy’s most difficult roles, which he performed again with ease, is certainly the one in the movie “Legend”. In that film, Tom Hardy played the twins Reggie and Ronnie Cray, London gangsters whose characters are completely different. Critics rewarded his great effort to faithfully present the two characters with the award for best actor.

On the same day when he was awarded for the role in the film “Legend”, he attended the premiere of the film “Returnee”.

For his role in this film, Leonardo DiCaprio won his first “Oscar”, and Tom Hardy was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. In 2016, together with his father Edward Hardy and Stephen Knight, he began filming the drama series “Taboo”. The screenplay was written by Tom Hardy himself who plays the lead role. The series, which breaks absolutely all taboos in eight episodes, was shown in 2017, and the excellent evaluation of the audience showed that Tom Hardy, in addition to his exceptional talent for acting, also has a good predisposition to become a great producer.

At about the same time, a new collaboration with Christopher Nolan followed, on the film “Dunkirk”, a war drama that shows the evacuation of the British army during the Second World War.

Private life

At age 22, he married producer Sarah Ward. The couple divorced in 2004. The media states that the reason for the divorce was his addiction to alcohol and cocaine. Hardy admitted that he consumed narcotics in his youth, but that he realized in time that he was on a good path to ruin his life, so he applied for rehabilitation himself.

In 2005, while filming the “Queen of Virgins” series, he met Rachel Speed, the assistant director of the series. In 2008, they had a son, Louis, and divorced a year later.

In 2009, he began a relationship with actress Charlotte Riley.

The couple met on the set of the series “Hurricane Heights”. They got married in 2014, and a year later, they had a son.

Hardy is a big fan of animals, especially dogs. Together with his wife, he adopted two dogs, Max and Woodstock. He is also engaged in humanitarian work, so in 2010 he became an ambassador of the humanitarian organization Prince Charles, which helps young people realize their dreams.

In 2015, GQ magazine included him on the list of the best trained Britons.

In 2016, he was named the most influential man in the UK. He is currently in a high 28 position on the well-known IMD site. For a couple of years now, he has been among the 50 most popular actors according to the readers of this site.

During the filming of “Bronson”, he met the most famous prisoner in Great Britain, Charles Bronson. Namely, Bronson is known to the public for the incredibly brutal behavior that has kept him behind bars in the most guarded prisons in Britain for 34 years. During the filming of the film, Hardy visited him several times in prison and they became good friends.

Bronson said he was impressed with how the young actor managed to portray him so faithfully on the film plant. What thrilled him the most was that Tom managed to “gain” as much as 19 kilograms of muscle mass, and to show the infamous Bronson with his appearance. He said that he believes that Tom Hardy is the only person who could play him.

In September 2017, Bronson told Hardy that he would like to give him a child. Since his prison visits were forbidden, Bronson came up with the idea of Tom making a child for his girlfriend Polly, so that she would be happy while waiting for him to get out of prison.
